GUARDIAN RETURNS WITH LIVE PERFORMANCE WEB-SHOW “HOUSE OF GUARDIAN”

Veteran Christian rockers to launch monthly webcast on April 15th at www.houseofguardian.com

NASHVILLE, March 30, 2009—Gospel rock band Guardian have announced the premier of a unique Internet video show that will encompass live performances, interviews, and candid reality-show footage.

The project reunites original band members Jamie Rowe, Tony Palacios, David Bach, and Karl Ney, along with newest member, guitarist Jamey Perrenot (Taylor Swift, LeAnn Rimes).

“The idea for “House of Guardian” came from a show we played this past December to a crowd of 80,000 people in Buenos Aires, Argentina” says vocalist Jamie Rowe. “It was exciting to find out that we still have quite a following —even though we have been a bit too busy with new ventures to tour much over the past few years. We wanted to figure out a way to bring people in to see the band if we can’t always tour. An internet video show made perfect sense.”

The first episode was filmed live at the home of new member Perrenot, in Spring Hill, TN. “Jamey is the new guy in the band so it was part of his initiation that we trashed his house!” jokes bassist David Bach. “Actually, it worked out great because Jamey has a nice studio at his house and we just ran cables into his living room and set up live.”

Perrenot was recruited by drummer Karl Ney at the church they both attend—when Guardian needed a live show replacement for guitarist Tony Palacios—who is an in-demand mix engineer. “Tony’s grueling schedule does not allow for much touring and we hit it off so well with Jamey that we asked him to join the band” adds Ney. “Fortunately, Tony liked Jamey as well, so now we’re a five-piece!”

The band will also release a Spanish version (La Casa De Guardian) of the webcast on behalf of their loyal Spanish-speaking following. “The huge crowd at our show in Buenos Aires was another amazing reminder of how awesome our Latin America fans are,” adds Rowe. “Our Spanish records and tours have been a favorite highlight of our career and we will try to add as many Spanish songs as we can to our live set on the show.”

The band will release the live tracks from the show on iTunes and other digital outlets later this year. Future plans also include a new album and more international shows. “But, all in good time” says Bach. “We’re just having fun with this. It’s like family reunion among brothers. It’s a blast just getting together and playing again. I hope the show is as much fun to watch as it is to make.”

A video preview of House of Guardian is now online at http://youtube.com/houseofguardian

House of Guardian will debut on April 15th at www.houseofguardian.com —with the premier of La Casa De Guardian (www.lacasadeguardian.com) to launch in May.

  Lefsetz on critics...

I read Bob Lefsetz blog on occasion. Sometimes it does absolutley nothing for me..but other times, it's brilliant. In this case, it's the latter. Bach forwarded this. It includes a link to Seth Godin's thoughts on critics too that is a must read!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Monsters vs. Aliens" just broke the 2009 box office record despite having reviews that were mediocre at best.

If you're making your music for the cognoscenti, you're missing the point.  You only need to please your target audience, that's it.  Music used to be a hierarchical world.  Who had the number one album, who got the most airplay, who had the biggest grosses.  If you're playing that game, you're lost in the wilderness.  A number one album sells few copies and is no guarantee of profits.  So many people don't even listen to the radio.  As for box office, do you really thing Miley Cyrus will be selling out arenas five years from now?  Three?  Two?

So when that hipster in black jeans says you suck, laugh in his face.  By putting you down, he's just illustrating how out of touch he is.  Anybody who can survive in today's music world deserves credit.  It's about gaining an audience, not reaching everybody.  If you make some people happy, you're on your way.  If you try to make everybody happy, you're doomed to failure.

There's no one powerful starmaker left.  Certainly not a rock critic.  Not even a record label honcho.  There's no one person whose imprimatur unlocks the gate to continued fame and riches.  We live in the era of the mob.  How can someone start a fire that turns into a conflagration.  That you may not be able to see from the other coast, but that appears positively gargantuan if you're anywhere nearby.

You can't complain if growth is slow.  Obviously, what you're doing is ahead of the game, or not quite mainstream.  Furthermore, if your career does blow up, enjoy the ride, but don't believe it's going to last.  Very few of these casual new fans are going to stick around.  And if you try to please them, you're just going to alienate those who truly care.

So don't swing for the fences.  Don't adopt a star attitude.  Be reachable.  The more accessible you are to your fans, the more they'll like you and spread the word.

As for the haters?

The haters aren't going to buy your albums anyway.  To try and placate them is a mistake.

(Note from jamie - please read this blog linked below by Seth Godin!!)

(Partially inspired by this: http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2009/03/ignore-your-critics.html  But like all the Darwin anniversary analysis says, ideas are in the air, no one's got a lock on breakthroughs.  Movie writers have written for years that a film's success is determined on opening day, when viewers text their buds from inside the theatre.  Criticism is now a function of the population at large.  We don't live in a top down world, no one dictates taste.  It's something we come at collectively.  Sure, there's critical reevaluation years down the line, the way hipsters cottoned to the Carpenters and Axl Rose revealed his love of Elton John, but if you change your work to placate hipsters along the way, you're in trouble.)

  Wow...

My buddy Oz had this scripture on his facebook..worthy of reposting here. I really like The Message paraphrase. The way it puts timeless truth into modern perspective is dandy.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-22 (The Message)
The Way He Wants You to Live
12-13And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!

13-15Get along among yourselves, each of you doing your part. Our counsel is that you warn the freeloaders to get a move on. Gently encourage the stragglers, and reach out for the exhausted, pulling them to their feet. Be patient with each person, attentive to individual needs. And be careful that when you get on each other's nerves you don't snap at each other. Look for the best in each other, and always do your best to bring it out.

16-18Be cheerful no matter what; pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live.

19-22Don't suppress the Spirit, and don't stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don't be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what's good. Throw out anything tainted with evil.

Matthew 9: 12-13 (The Message)

12-13Jesus, overhearing, shot back, "Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? Go figure out what this Scripture means: 'I'm after mercy, not religion.' I'm here to invite outsiders, not coddle insiders."

Stinging truth.

Minister beaten after clashing with Muslims on his TV show

By Jonathan Petre
Last updated at 4:39 PM on 15th March 2009

A Christian minister who has had heated arguments with Muslims on his TV Gospel show has been brutally attacked by three men who ripped off his cross and warned: ‘If you go back to the studio, we’ll break your legs.’

The Reverend Noble Samuel was driving to the studio when a car pulled over in front of him. A man got out and came over to ask him directions in Urdu.

Mr Samuel, based at Heston United Reformed Church, West London, said: ‘He put his hand into my window, which was half open, and grabbed my hair and opened the door.

Frightened: TV minister Noble Samuel

He started slapping my face and punching my neck. He was trying to smash my head on the steering wheel.

Then he grabbed my cross and pulled it off and it fell on the floor. He was swearing. The other two men came from the car and took my laptop and Bible.’

The Metropolitan Police are treating it as a ‘faith hate’ assault and are hunting three Asian men.

In spite of the attack, Mr Samuel went ahead with his hour-long live Asian Gospel Show on the Venus satellite channel from studios in Wembley, North London. During the show the Muslim station owner Tahir Ali came on air to condemn the attack.

Pakistan-born Mr Samuel, 48, who was educated by Christian missionaries and moved to Britain 15 years ago, said that over the past few weeks he has received phone-in calls from people identifying themselves as Muslims who challenged his views.

‘They were having an argument with me,’ he said. ‘They were very aggressive in saying they did not agree with me. I said those are your views and these are my views.’

He said that he, his wife Louisa, 48, and his son Naveed, 19, now fear for their safety, and police have given them panic alarms. ‘I am frightened and depressed,’ he said. ‘My show is not confrontational.’

It's great to see Israel Houghton getting press coverage all over the place of late! In a blog post earlier, I mentioned the iPhone app I had a chance to help with, this article was syndicated by Reuters and includes a mention of the app!

  Words of wisdom...
"What drives people away from Christ is the Christian who does not
know how to love. A string of cruel words from a Christian can destroy
another Christian. Over and over again people write to me to explain
why they left a church in bitterness and hurt, because of the
mercilessness of Christians who made them feel unwelcome, or even told
them to go away. I'm convinced that it takes immense courage to remain
in a church where one is surrounded by hostile voices; and yet we must
remain in our churches and we must answer hostility with meekness,
with gentleness, or simply not answer it at all!"

  Happy Monday...

I haven't been able to blog much lately. But on my end, it's ok because I have been expressing myself creatively a lot more in other ways of late. Definitely not short on opinions and rants that's for sure! ;-)

Heather (aka: my "foxy") is pregnant with our 4th child. She's queasy all the time it seems and that makes me think we're having a boy. This is similar to what she went through with Christian. Hope to know soon if I am correct! August 27th is the due date.

I've had great opportunities to help other music ministries in their efforts lately. One example would be a freshly designed myspace for Hillsong London in anticipation of their US tour next month that Integrity is promoting.

Check it out...Add them to your friends!

This will seem HIGHLY insignificant to you, but I think it's cool...

Integrity Music is about to launch Israel Houghton's iPhone App. The first app for a Christian artist! Chris Estes led the development team and had me beta test it. Through that, I was able to provide feedback that I was missing a pause option for songs. On the fly Chris asked me to work up a pause icon...I did..and voila: I have a small part of the first iPhone app for a Christian artist!

Told you it wouldn't be as cool to you as it is to me! ;-)

I mostly work for Integrity Music, but, I did accept a small outside project that I took a Saturday afternoon to create. It's a media/press destination site for Inspirational/Country legends The Oak Ridge Boys. I just HAD to do it considering I sang many a "UMM PAH PAH MAU MAU's" when I was like 9 years old. Plus, they still have the guy with the seriously long beard. Who wouldn't wanna' do that job?

Here's a bit of what it looks like:

MediaPageComp-OakRidgeBoys

Also made some fresh graphics for my church...I do it for free as time allows and I enjoy it. Especially if it helps us reach beyond our 4 walls.

In other news, Christian completed a 4 performance run with Gibson Southern High School's production of West Side Story. Pretty cool show! Since January, Christian went from never dancing to doing full blown choreographed songs quite well. This event was especially cool since it was the last performance in the current auditorium. The new & improved one will be used next year. By the way, Christian is an 8th grader who was invited by director Matt Hart to be a part of the high school production. He not only looks like a rock star, he's got some talent to back it up! (yeah, proud & biased dad...deal with it!)

I twitter so often that most of this won't be news for too many folks..but I needed to unwind and blogging was my outlet of choice for the night.

One question: If money were not a factor, what would you be doing with your life? Is it vastly different than what you are doing now? If so, are you living an unfulfilled life by not following your true passion? I've asked myself this a lot recently and was amazed to be able to honestly say, I wouldn't change much at all. But I think it's a valid question that everyone should ask themselves from time to time.  A "gut check" is always good.

See ya soon!
